Tax Returns: Software or Elster?

Hi,

I want to do the tax returns for my wife and myself. I have researched a bit and found great software that's suitable for beginners: WISO Steuererklaerung: Start 2018.

I have also found that you can submit your tax returns directly on ELSTER.de, which is a goverment website.

So, should I buy the software and do it that way, or should I do it directly through ELSTER? What is easier and better?
